LHC Seminar Identifies New Funding For Energy Saving

LHC has presented the first in a series of free seminars, helping social landlords to identify new funding sources for energy efficiency improvement works on housing stock.

The leading public sector consortium, supported by Northern Housing Consortium, held a half-day seminar on “Whole House Energy Efficiency Funding.”
The event at Leeds United Football Club, offered key insights into current funding initiatives such as the Carbon Emission Reduction Target (CERT) the Community Energy Saving Programme (CESP), and the proposed new Energy Company Obligation (ECO) and Green Deal.
Included in the programme were keynote addresses from Rob Colledge, Field Operations Manager at British Gas who outlined the Government’s available funding streams and the energy efficiency agenda, alongside Richard Woolfall, Head of Asset Management at Wirral Partnership Homes, who offered a case study testament to using LHC’s procurement route.
LHC’s Senior Management Team explained the benefits of using OJEU compliant, pre-tendered framework arrangements to ‘fast track’ access to funding and highlighted the dedicated public sector opportunities for whole house refurbishment.
A mini exhibition, attended by 20 social housing specialist suppliers, showcased the energy saving products and services available from LHC’s appointed companies and contractors.
LHC Director, John Skivington said: “As the first of its kind, we are delighted with the outcome of the event and have received significant positive feedback on the variety of speakers and insightful content of the presentations, alongside the number of quality public sector suppliers present.
“This is a very difficult time for social landlords and local authority housing teams, who have to look very hard to find new sources of funding.  Hopefully this seminar has shown that there are still budgets available for energy efficiency initiatives in social housing.
“Based on this success, we will certainly be planning more events and encourage those involved to attend to ensure more councils can take advantage of the Government’s continuing pledge to link any building or refurbishment funding to energy saving and carbon reduction commitments.”
