Sustainability

Environmental, social and economic sustainability has become a key consideration for the public sector when procuring products and services. This has been encouraged by the UK Government and EU, as well as public sector organisations who seek to be more considerate of the wider issues.

LHC is committed to sustainability both in the way we operate and in the way we expect LHC appointed companies to behave in helping customers achieve their sustainability goals through the products and services sourced through LHC framework arrangements.

For the past decade LHC has adhered to the following five global sustainability values:

1. accept that sustainability requires "development that meets the need of the present without compromising the ability of the future generations to meet their own needs" (Our Common Future - Brundtland Commission.)
   
   
2. encourage LHC appointed companies to provide a credible sustainable platform of products and services which LHC customers can draw in order to fulfil the requirements of their sustainable procurement policies.
   
   
3. encourage LHC appointed  companies to set robust targets and set their own sustainability policies and action plans. 
   
   
4. recognise that LHC is required to set robust targets and maintain its own sustainability policy and action plan.
   
   
5. encourage LHC members to set robust targets and achieve, maintain and review those targets in pursuance of their sustainable procurement policies and action plans.
